vitamins. are oganic compounds essential for growth, health, and vital functions. Avitamin that is dietary essential for some animals may not be so for other species. for example, humans, primates, gunia pigs and most fishes require vitamin C supplementation but most land animals do not. Although the requirements are small, deficiencies of these micro nutrients can cause signs ranging from poor appetite to severe tissue deformities. (lovell, 1989). Both avitaminosis and hypervitaminosis are harmful for living organisms. vitamin c was named by Drummond (1920). L- Glucuronic acid was isolated by Szent - Gyorgy in 1928. crystalline vitamin C was isolated and demonstrated to be the antiscorbutic vitamin by King and Waugh (1932). it was named ascorbic acid by Szent- Gyorgy and Haworth (1933). the reduced or active from of ascorbic acid is a white odorless, crystalline compound, soluble in water but insoluble in fat solvents.
