Activating the Role of the Unit for Combating Violence against Women

at Damanhour University in Cooperation with

the National Council for Women

Prof. Dr. Abdel Hamid El-Sayed Abdel Hamid - Vice President of Damanhour University for Graduate Studies and Research

- held the first meeting of the Unit for Combating Violence against Women at the university in cooperation with the National Council for Women.

Mrs. Shaima Naim - Director General of the Strategic Department of the National Council for Women in Cairo,

Mrs. Mona Al-Ghazali - Coordinator of the Anti-Violence against Women Project - and members of the unit at the university

attended the meeting. Prof. Dr. Abdel Hamid stressed the university's keenness to activate the Unit for Combating Violence against women.

The main recommendations of that meeting were:

§  Adding educational subjects related to protecting women against violence within the law regulating Egyptian universities.

§  Designing and printing a brochure about the unit’s services available on the educational campus.

§  Implementation of an annual meeting within the annual university conference to raise awareness of the role of the unit.

§  Implementation of a training program to raise the capabilities of service providers.

Holding training courses and educational seminars to protect girls from the dangers of early marriage and violence.
